If you have co-workers of the opposite sex (aaah, what the heck, of any attractive sex), have you tried to use their laps as a mouse pad? It's doesn't work very well, but soon you'll forget what was it that you were going to click, so worsened riding qualities don't matter.

Thought we can share your experience, or just ideas here...

To John Dunn: if you are going to post in this thread, please come up with something a timid beginner can read without feeling inferior.

Is this timid enough? It's the way I asked out my eventual wife, who happened to be the CTO's assistant at the company where we both worked :

Sent: Friday, October 12, 2001 3:41 PM

Subject: Macy Gray

The honorable and respectful, Mr. John T. Dunn, kindly requests your
gracious presence Wednesday, October 17, 2001 for a live performance by the one and only:

The show will start promptly at 8:00pm. Please rendezvous with the aforementioned gentleman
at Whiskey Bar, (Paramount Hotel) at 7:00pm, located at 235 West 46th Street (between Broadway
and Eighth Avenue (PH 819-0404). After a refreshing cocktail hour you will be safely escorted
to the theatre. (Casual attire is permitted and preferred.)

performance and is subject to change. Absolutely no post-performance attendance will be permitted
without an invitation. The gentleman patiently awaits your response.

When she discovered that I was serious, she said yes. And we were married within the year. No one at work knew until after we were engaged for awhile!!! My goal at work was that NO ONE ever knew my business.

Irony here is that b/c she worked for the CTO!!! I had to really really play it cool.

Using coworker's body as keyboard will be more erotic

I think Apple's wireless mouse will be a good option.
or we can ask 'attractive' coworkers to use new mouse pad. Then we can proceed accordingly.

Do you find left-handed people more attractive than right-handed?

Just because of the hand they use?
I realized most left handed people have something else common in them, and often they are very talented.
The guy who used to sit next to me in elementary and high school was lefthanded, but he would use his left hand only to draw, and right hand to write. His drawings were amazing. His hand writing sucked.
Another left-handed guy I knew was genious in all technical areas.
And many many more examples.
I also noticed that most left-handed people are very organized and very goal oriented people.
Or maybe it is just coincidence that I met left handed organized people.

I heard that southpaws have a shorter life expectancy and suffer more throughout their lives.

Is that because of all the crap they have to put up with as kids, when everyone is trying to get them to do things the 'right' way!!

Is it still a problem in, say, any parts of USA?

[Rita]: I also noticed that most left-handed people are very organized and very goal oriented people.

Gotta say, I've never noted that at all. But maybe that's just me.

[Jesse]: I heard that southpaws have a shorter life expectancy and suffer more throughout their lives.

Um, don't know anything about "suffer more throughout their lives". That sounds rather made-up to me. However the "shorter life expectancy" is a myth that came about because some researchers notices that if you look at the number of lefties as a function of age, the percentage of lefties falls off noticably as people pass sixtly, seventy, eighty years old. (I believe this study was specifically in the US; there may be similar data elsewhere.) So the researchers announced with alarm that it looked like lefites were dying off earlier for some sinister reason. Fortunately, some less inept researchers came along later and looked more carefully at the numbers, and realized that there was another explanation. In the past, many parents were told they should discourage children from using the left hand for writing - and so many would-be lefties were actively retrained to use the right hand. Schools helped too. With varying degrees of success. So now, there are fewer old lefties - not because they are more likely to die, but they were more likely to have been converted to right-handers at a very young age.

[Sonny]: Is it still a problem in, say, any parts of USA?

I don't think so - not in any large numbers, anyway. And not in schools.

I think the suffering is genuine - a life of non-functioning scissors, corkscrews, ergonomically challenged 'puter pointing devices, kitchens, cars etc etc etc....
I would think that'd drive you mad - and of course having a lifelong battle to not smudge your handwriting with your left wrist!

Not sure about today but 20 years ago they tried to get me to write righthanded, thinking it might improve my handwriting.
It did the reverse and I still write lefthanded today.

Vast improvement from my mother who in the 1950s got her left hand tied with rope to her back (after being slapped with a wooden ruler several times) almost every day so she had no choice but to use her right hand.

Hmmm.. you were in the US then? How long/hard did they try? I learned to write in the mid seventies in the US, and had no problem when I wanted to use my left hand - teachers were completely supportive. But US schools can vary greatly from state to state, county to county, district to district.

I was trying to be humorous! Your writings were censored twice, so I thought it's time for some dose of laugh here. No demonizing whatsoever. And whom to belittle?! The thread about using "even" has more posts that "Erotic life in the workplace"! Ha! My fellow drivelers, you are total disappointment.

Left-handed people are more affected by the idea of the Kings' Path. I think Budda, Jesus and Frodo were all left-handed.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
