what are accelerated graphics, why would you use them, and how do you implement them in java.

It generally means that certain graphics calculation (which can be quite CPU-intensive) are not performed by the CPU or the JVM, but by hardware that's on the graphics card (the GPU - graphics processing unit). So you wouldn't implement it in Java; the JVM would take advantage of GPUs automatically.
