I have put this also on the Head First forum:

I know that there are two java versions since Head First Java 1st edition, Java 5 and 6. But, I have mistakenly order the 1st edition, will I be totally lost with Java 5 and 6 features? Also is there plans for a 3rd edition?

Thanks

Hi there,

Java 5 introduces some new concepts, but if you are new to Java then Head First will give you an understanding of Object Oriented programming and all the basics of programming in Java. After getting half way through Head First Java you'll probably be in a position to pick up an article (or a chapter from a book) introducing the new concepts and be able to run with it.

On the other hand, if you have the opportunity of exchanging your order and getting the 2nd edition I'd probably go for it - just because the book does such a great job of explaining those new concepts

I don't know whether there is a 3rd edition planned.

Hi Guys,

What Katrina said, plus, at this point there are no plans to cover Java 6 all by itself. It's fairly likely that when Java 7 is finalized we'll update the book to include both 6 and 7, but that won't be for a while.

hth,

Bert

Great Bert , you books are awesome, nice to see you here.

As to Head First Version 1 , it is very good for beginners and it teaches
tough concepts by fun.
