Envernment variable setting in kubuntu.

How to set the PATH in kubuntu .I have installed it in /home/ashok/ directory .Thanks in advance

Try
export PATH=/home/ashok/bin/:$PATH
when you open a shell.

That is actually probably wrong. You would probably want /home/ashok/jdk1.6.0_06/bin/:$PATH

Try adding those lines to the end of the .bashrc file in your home directory. That way, every time your shell starts, the path will be correct.

Is there a .bashrc file in Kubuntu? I know there is in Ubuntu, but it might be different with the K. It all depends on which shell you are using.

It is worthwhile adding that sort of thing at the end of the .bashrc file, and if that doesn't work, search a Linux forum on the web and find which file you need to edit.

By the way: You do realise the . before bashrc means it is a hidden file?
