System environment variables

I'm new to JAVA and looking for a little help in installing it. I set the Env. Vari. to path = c rogram Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_06\bin; And it doesn't work. Can someone help??

Did you open a new Command Prompt after changing the system variable? Depending on the OS, you might need to reboot.

I'll take care of the name thing, and thanks for your reply on my question.

I did get the envir. vari. to work, but I can't seem to get the command prompt to reconize the file and execute it. can you help?

would you please justify what exactly a command prompt showing , is it a error or exception . If so, post it here ..

Hi Frank,

Instead of setting the path in environment variables, you can also use the following command to execute your file.

c:\windows>set path=%path%;c:\program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_06\bin;

also check whether path is set properly or not. Just give

c:\windows>path

It will display all the paths....

Once you close command prompt, the path you have set here will get erased. You need to repeat the same if you open a new command prompt window.
