Looks nice, but unless you live away from a town or community, why would you want gym at home?

All the gyms that I have tried are go to are very well managed, with plenty of space, latest and well maintained (and very clean) machines and facilities like swimming pool, sauna etc to unwind after a proper workout. I wouldn't setup a gym at home even if I had the funds for it!

While I agree that the "managed" gyms are well maintained and have lots of facilities, they are also horribly expensive IMO. Usually, come with yearly contracts and make it difficult to get out of the contract. Some have lousy (stinking) contrants which basically will prevent you from getting out. [Ok, there probably is a positive side to that, I don't want a debate, just stating my opinion.]

And the worst thing is the way they advertise, as low as $19/- per month. What they don't tell you is the
three year contract, plus $xxx membership fee.

So if you are serious about exercising, home gym makes sense to me.
    Nice TV Roger.

A small local college allows community members to use their athletic facilities for a small membership fee. The hours are restricted to insure enough time for students, however, they work out fine for us. I pay $260US/year for my whole family. You can't touch any gym or spa for that price. Plus I don't have to use up space in my small house. It works well for us.

That's a very clever idea on the part of the college. They make money, increase the participation of the community. And at that price, I think its a very good bargain for a person that's serious about a good workout.

Just to put it in perspective, the normal monthly fee for a family in a commercial "gym" is about $55/- and that too because you have that special discount ooowwwww.... .

    Nice setup

[Vasa] Swim trainer - are these any good. I've never really had any experience of swim trainers, and am skeptical especially since they are so expensive (650). How can you emulate swimming in a pool?
I've heard they are good for strength training, but I'm sure that this can be achieved with weight training.

I'm kind of old fashioned. I don't care for much of the high tech stuff. A nice variety of free weights and a place to run and I'm all set. My philosophy of exercise is do what you enjoy doing. If you don't like it very much or worse, hate it, you won't stick with it. Unless you are a hopeless stoic. Most people are not. I like lifting weights, playing basketball and occasionally running. I did try one of those new fangled elliptical machines the other day. Pretty good workout but I hate the bossiness! "Go 60rpm, now 45rpm, now go at your own pace... now go in reverse... try to maintain 60rpm...." Sheesh! If I wanted to be nagged to death I'd have just gone to work!
