If you have the choice to live a new life again, would you choose the IT field again ?
Personally, my dream was to be a pilot !
don't get me wrong, I like IT industry alot and I can't imagin myself doing things other programming.
So, what is your choice ?

I've always wanted to be a pilot but been held back by financial and health issues.

I tried so hard not to be in IT... and failed miserably!!!'

I grew up with both my parents talking "IT" over the dining table every evening and promised myself I'd do something more interesting, worthwhile and satisfying with my life. I completed a suitably vague degree in Politics and Music and spent a year scraping by on various cash-in-hand gigs and unemployment benefit whilst looking for a job other than in IT.

I *nearly* joined the Police, thinking that a career in a community services away from the corporate world would keep me satisfied, but the force I applied to announced a 3 yr recruitment freeze due to government budget cuts [insert rant about centre-right minimalist government policies here]- so I had to find something else to do.

Eventually I caved in and joined the ranks of the IT professionals - (IT was the only job that could be found.) 10 years later and I'm still doing it.. disliking what I do, having no enthusiasm for the corporate world I live in - but I'm addicted to the money!! (and now havent got a hope in hell of getting an equivalent income in any other line of work)

Should I have tried harder? Should I have kept up with my musician mates (who still live on the poverty line)? Should I have held on and joined the cops? Who knows......

I'm here now and theres no point trying to change that!

Certainly not IT again!!! There's so much that can be done outside of this!!!

I got into IT because this was the field I loved most. But of late I am not too enthusiastic about my work and schedules. Given a chance I would be doing food business (start a restaurant may be). Then there are so many other things I would like to spend my time on. Learn drums, indulge in adventure sports (trekking, rafting...wow!!), travel a lot... Like what Adrian says sticking in this field only because it pays me more. Just got to be here for may be another 5 years ... may be even less..

In my childhood days, I aspired to become a Singer but later turned to become an Accountant. As I pursued this profession, I realised its boring all the time playing with figures so computers excited me and I became a Programmer. Now in next 2-3 years I again hope to change to another field, probably set up my own restaurant or go for farming. If given a chance to re-live my life again, I will follow the same set of fields but would like to establish myself in all of them and yes except Accounting.

i would like to be someone like Soledad o'Brien of CNN doing GMA or Justine Shapiro of Discovery Channel doing Lonely Planet (guess she's the most travelled person on this planet ... donno if it is still aired) . My choice would be the broadcasting industry or an extensive traveler.

A hunter-gather-farmer type in a remote corner of the planet, with unspoilt land, crystal clear lakes and rivers and crisp mountain air!

A Chef, with Choclate as my specialization.
No sir not IT, way too many...aaaa....anyways!

I wanted to be in IT, but now I have second thoughts. Probably am going through a mid-life crisis thing. [Mid-life is it downhill from now on!]
