Are the Illini "going all the way?"

Some say that the Illini needed a loss during the regular season. So is Sunday's loss to Ohio going to help the Illini in any way?

Comments???

i think the championship will go to a team from a strong conference. this year, big east and acc are the two best conference. big east has ~8 ranked teams, acc has 3 top 5 teams.

besides, big east (syracuse and connecticut) won in 04 and 03. acc (duke and maryland) won in 02 and 01.

big 10, sec, and pac 10 are clearly lacking this year. big 12 is better, kansas, oklahoma, oklahoma st. were ok. but big 12 usually lacks basketball talent.

overall, i think north carolina will win it all, especially after watching they beat duke this past Sunday. they scored last 11 points in the game, clearly they are very mature.

go tar heel go!

I'm planning to pick the Illini to go all the way in my bracket this year.

Going against popular opinion to say that the Big East is way overrated this year and they'd be lucky to get three teams past the first round.

This will be one of the biggest upset years ever.

after a fun weekend, now everyone left becomes serious about the game.

my picks for the final four are: illinois, north carolina, kentucky, and louiville.

louiville was ranked no. 4 in the nation in the final poll, but how come they are only regional no. 4 seed?

each with 3 teams left, acc and big 10 prove to be winners. there is a reason to belive the final will be between illinois and north carolina

The consensus is that the final will consist of Illinois and NC. I think that Wisc. Milwaukee is the Cinderella team this year. So Illinois might encounter difficulties on Thursday when they go against Wisc. Milwaukee. I hope for the best. Go Illini!

I had Syracuse and Connecticut in the Final Four, despite my previous comment of the Big East being overrated. I should learn to take my own advice. At least the Big Ten teams are doing well, so I still have something to cheer for even though my bracket got busted. Go Spartans!

I picked Louisville as well for the Final Four. They deserved a higher seed and they look great so far. I look forward to them flattening Washington.

Wis-Mil looks great. I picked them to make it to the Sweet 16 (one of the few teams I get to brag about) but I don't think they will give the Illini much trouble. It would be a fun game to be at with so many fans representing both teams.

In a way The Illini will have home court advantage since the game will be played in the Chicago area. Also the Illini go into tonight's game with history on their side. No Number 12 Seed has ever beat a Number 1 seed. Nevertheless, this is March and anything can happen!

U of I is twice as far from Chicago compared to Wis-Mil. So they didn't necessarily have a home court advantage, although the Illini have never lost in Chicago.

This past weekend's Elite Eight games were absolutely amazing! I still can't believe how close they all were.
Go Spartans & Illini!!!

I am glad to see the Big Ten doing well because of all the crap we have been hearing about how "down" the league is this year.

I am rooting for the Illini to win it all. Not because I am an Illini fan but because I am an alumni of the only team (so far) to beat the Illini this year.

I disagree with you. Remember, the game was played in Illinois not in Wisc. So it doesn't matter if the All-state arena is geographically closer to Wisconsin. The game was still played in Illinois. My friend attended the Sat night game and he isn't even an UI Alumni. He attended because he wanted to have a team to cheer for. Since the Bulls last won in Chicago, we have had little to cheer for. So now the Illini have given us something to cheer for.

I take it you aren't considering the 2003 Cubs as something to cheer for.
I see your point though. Chicago "neutrals" are more likely to root for the Illini and I do recall seeing more orange in the stands than anything.

You are right. I completely forgot about the 2003 Cubs. What a season! After the infamous Bartman incident, I knew the Cubs would lose.

You wouldn't happen to have a very tall relative from Rochester, MI by the name of Paul, would you?

At any rate I'm looking forward to UNC losing.

Michigan State looks strong. But so does Louisville, Illinois, and NC. This year's final four teams are strong. Anyone can win. However Go Illini!

michigan state went to final four 3 consective times (99-01), won national championship in 2000. obviously, the recruit for this michigan state team were very talented. but they were under-achived over last 3 years.

besides, i believe in miracle, no team beat duke and kentucky in the same tournament before. no mention duke, kentucky, and north carolina, 3 biggest names (perhaps only after ucla) in ncaa basketball history. michigan state can do just that this year.

[sigh]

now i root for illinois

it is often said it is diffcult to beat a team 3 times in a year.

north carolina knock off wisconsin in regional final, now they beat michigan state, can they beat another big 10 team - illinois?

it will be diffcult

Yes NC has beaten Wisc and Mich State. However, tonight's game against the Illini should be a close one.

Go Illini!
