Please tell me difference between EJB server and EJB container responsibilities.

They are two names for the same thing.

They are different. And also we have corresponding ejb roles for those two -

EJB server provider
EJB container provider

I want to know what services a container should provide and what services a ejb server should provide.

Well, OK, I suppose strictly they are. In reallity though, they are not. The EJB spec. defines both roles, but states that the "current EJB architecture assumes the EJB Server Provider and the EJB Container Provider roles are the same vendor. Therefore, it does not define any interface requirements for the EJB Server Provider."

Basically, it defines the role, then never uses it (its only the EJB Container Provider's responsibilities that are ever defined).
