The Touareg, because it's proven itself to be capable offroad, the rest are soft roaders, perfectly suited for climbing curbs in parking lots.
To be honest I'm not sure about the Cayenne, all I know is it's ugly, though that's subjective ofcourse.

I would like a car that only looks like an SUV. It must have good fuel economy and its suspension must be well suited for highroads.

Any of the above, sitting on the scrap heap of history along with the Ford Expedition, the Nissan Armada and the Cadillac Escalade. The sooner that gas gets to $2 a litre in the US the better. I heard today that S&P has reduced Ford and GM debt to junk status. I suspect their addiction to the SUV cult is the reason.

For those who like ironic names, the Escalade was a failed attempt by the Duke of Savoy to take Geneva, still celebrated in Geneva and the Armada was a failed attempt by the Spanish to take Britain, great names. And Cayenne is hot, but otherwise tasteless.

My actual favorites are the Harvester XT Family

I am, but I'd rather have a mid 80's Range Rover, 5 doors please. I have kids and dogs and we camp and fish a lot, I need the room.

That jeep looks like truck loads of fun

John,
If you are thinking in this league you are not amongst those worried about fuel mileage and gas prices etc. Perhaps you are not worried about resale values and future investments on the vehicle either so in your case it's only a matter of what looks best to your eye.

I'd go for the MB M-Class. Only because it carries MB's long and reliable history plus I think apart from the VW (VW actually is the odd man out in this class) all other's are more expensive.

SUV are very popular, but I have always wanted to know why would java developers want one. If I tell you why I want one first it, will spoil your answer.
