I *need* (my wife doesnt see it this way - but I do *need*) a subwoofer to complement my decent quality home theatre.. At the moment I have awesome 5.0 sound - but I wanna shake the walls!!

I've looked around at the price of decent subs and quite frankly I wont get it past the "Domestic Spending Committee".

So... despite having done nothing more adventurous than assemble IKEA stuff - I have a plan!!

I can buy subwoofer amp for ~AU$200-250
I can buy a *good* 12" subwoofer driver for ~AU$150-200
wioring together of these bits should be pretty straightforward and idiot-proof!!

..and then I can muck around with MDF, jigsaws, PVA glue and a load of screws to build a solid sturdy wooden box... then use filler, a sander, black paint and varnish to get a good finish..

All in all I should be able to build a decent sub for <$600 which competes with a AU$1500-2000 retail.

Am I dreaming? What disasters lie ahead for me? Anybody got any wisdom on commencing such projects armeed with a total ignorance of whats involved and complete lack of skills!
