i am a newbie to J2ME.

I have to develop a data collection application for a WinCE or Win Mobile handheld computer connected to a fixed RFID reader through a USB cable.

device is Intermec's CN3.

Please let me know as to which language i have to use for this device using win CE.
can i use J2ME or i hav to necessarily use C# or vb.net ,vc++ etc.
what other external library's and other things i hav to use.

Is contactless connection 1.0 API is the appropriate API for RFID tag reading.

Any help [links ,docs etc] would be highly appreciated.

Almost no WinCE mobile devices have any built-in support for Java. There are ways to add Java to WinCE/Windows Mobile, but they usually won't integrate as well with the hardware as devices that come with Java built-in will do, so that's a problem when you're talking specialized devices like GPS units or RFID readers.

For devices running Windows Mobile 5 or later, you'll probably get best results programming in one of the .Net languages and using the Mirosoft APIs. You'll probably want to find a Windows Mobile version of the JavaRanch for help on that, though, since we're not well-stocked with experts on that platform here.

I've developed apps for WM/C#.Net, and as long as you're familiar with basic Windows programming, have a copy of Visual Studio .Net and don't mind spending lots of time using the MSDN library docs, it's not too bad.

Though I prefer Java, myself.
