Hi,

The JVM option -XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError has been introduced in JDK1.4.2

But when I am testing out this option in JDK1.5, I am getting error as follows:

java -XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryErrors OOM1
Unrecognized VM option '+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryErrors'
Could not create the Java virtual machine.

But, this option is working fine with JDK1.6

Any thoughts why it is not working with JDK1.5?

Thanks,
Guru

HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError was introduced during Mustang (Java 6) development, and then "back-ported" to some later patch releases of 1.4.2 and 5.0. So if your JDK 5 installation is from an earlier patch level, it won't have that option. Upgrade to the newest JDK 5 release for your platform and try again.

No he should use remove the trailing "s", the option is called HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError and not HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryErrors

This thread is pretty old but it still comes up as a top hit in google, therefore I answered

Hi Amanjit and welcome to Javaranch!

I realise from your post that you're aware this was an old thread, so I thought I'd post our policy on this: DontWakeTheZombies
