Logging Folder access  RSS feed

I have a shared folder in my system(Windows XP). I need to log the access of this shared folder into the database regarding the IP/user accessing the folder etc., How can i achieve this using Java.

Hi Muthukrishnan and welcome to Javaranch!

What Java APIs have you looked at using so far? I suggest you take a look at the io & nio packages to begin with.

Thanks I went through IO but I can find only stuff related to files. Please give me some idea how to start with working with folders.

Java uses the java.io.File class for both files and directorys.

IF all users access this folder through Java applications you control, you could use a custom SecurityManager to log access.

IF you are talking about users with non-Java applications, you should not be surprised that Java does not let you get at such operating system specific controls directly.
