Hi,

I was checking through J2EE Design Patterns books. In Barnes and Noble I came across two books.

1. Core J2EE Patterns (Core Design Series) : Best Practices and Design Strategies

2. Core J2EE Patterns : Best Practices and Design Strategies, Exclusive Poster Edition

First book is by 3 authors and second book is by one author (one of the authors from first book). I would like to know if there are any differences between these two books. Both are Sun publications and have same cover page. I really do not understand which one to get. Could someone help me please?

Thanks,
Padma.

I could only find one of them on Amazon. Please quote the ISBNs of each of them. The one I found was ISBN 978-0131422469, Core J2EE Patterns: Best Practices and Design Strategies (2nd Edition) (Sun Core Series) (Hardcover)
by Deepak Alur, Dan Malks, John Crupi, apparently printed in 2007.

If one of them is a poster edition, it is not actually a book, but we would need the ISBN to check. I couldn't find a poster edition on Amazon, but did found an older edition marked as "not available."

Here are the details:

1. Core J2EE Patterns (Core Design Series) : Best Practices and Design Strategies by Deepak Alur, Dan Malks, John Crupi, Grady Booch ( Foreword by) , Martin Fowler ( Foreword by)

ISBN-13: 9780131422469 Pub. Date: 06/10/2003

2. Core J2EE Patterns : Best Practices and Design Strategies, Exclusive Poster Edition by Deepak Alur

ISBN-13: 9780131058439 Pub. Date: 07/07/2003

Yes. This poster edition is exclusive to Barnes and Noble. Isn't poster edition a book?

Now that I have got the ISBNs: the difference appears to be that the poster edition comes with a wall poster as well as the book.
Look at the prices, and see whether there are any "new or used" copies on Amazon.

I hope that is enough information for you to make a decision

Thanks much.

But why do they give the same book along with poster for price half of the other book?

Special offer? A loss-leader to make you buy from B&N rather than from Amazon?

Say Padma, would you mind removing that smiley from your name? See our naming policy for why. The rest of your name is just fine

Thank you,

Rob

hmmmm. May be you are right. But the second book author is just Deepak Alur but the first one has two more authors.

anyways, I am going to go for the second book. I get a poster and a book for half the price.

Thanks Campbell.
