Google Maps has uploaded satellite imagery from around the globe some high-resolution photos of New Delhi too.

For instance, heres Rajpath and Rashtrapathi Bhavan

http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=28.611832,77.223158&spn=0.023732,0.038109&t=k&hl=en

googlesightseeing.com is another interesting site.

Privacy is a real concern, and google defends their position like this:

ore recently, Google's Web Accelerator has been the target of complaints. The company's map-linked satellite imagery also shines a spotlight on individual houses.

But the image detail is deliberately limited, Schmidt said. "We cannot see your swing set, and we're not trying to," he said. And Google has complied with some government agency requests to blank out areas of its satellite maps. But in general the benefits of more information outweigh the problems, he said.

"The value of more information so overwhelms its misuse that we've not had material problems there," Schmidt said.

While government agencies can request to black out certain areas, which google will comply with, I would be more worried about random strangers (potential burglars, rapists whatever) looking into my back garden, but I hope there will be some limits put into how much detail you can zoom in, or may be an option to opt out of the map, like how you can chose not to list your number in the telephone directory!

Its all a bit of fun for now anyway!

On the bottom left hand side of the screen you can see shadow of the Papal Cross where Pope John Paul II said Mass for over a million people in 1979.

To the left of the roundabout in the picture is the residence of American Ambassador to Ireland and if you pan to the right (follow the road through the trees) you can see Irish President's palace/residence.
