Hai Everyone..

I have been preparing to clear 1.5 exam.
I heard that from Jan 2009 1.5 will be removed fully..
Once if SUN releases jdk1.7 in market, it removes 1.5 ??
How far is this true ?

Are the materials for 1.6 available now ?
Will there be much difference in the exams of 1.5 and 1.6 ?

What to go for ? Please help me..
Thank you ..

Java 5.0 will be phased out on October 2009 as per my knowledge. I am not sure though.
For SCJP 6.0, go for K&B book. Thats the best one available in the market till date.

Welcome to JavaRanch.

Java 5 and SCJP 5 is not going to be discontinued in January 2009, and Java 7 is not going to be out anytime soon (as far as I know, the development of Java 7 is still in the early stage, it hasn't even been decided yet which features will be implemented in Java 7).

So, there's no problem if you want to do SCJP 5.

However, the difference between SCJP 5 and 6 is small, so there's really no reason to do SCJP 5 - concentrate on SCJP 6 instead.

See our SCJP FAQ for more information, it contains info on what exactly the differences are between SCJP 5 and 6, and also a list of free and commercial mock exams.

Really? Well, Sun hasn't officially announced it yet as far as I know; there's nothing about it on Sun's SCJP page.

But I wouldn't be surprised - the difference between SCJP 5 and 6 is very small, and it doesn't really make a lot of sense to offer both versions of the exam.
