A small query : Please suggest

Hi All ,

As we all know ,the posts on this site are very qualitative (each and every post) ,
Has some one made some kind of Knowledge Base like which will have main extracts from all posts (in a word document listing all concepts/guidance/problems(of posts) and their solutions from experts in summarized form )

[I am in process of gathering all necessary info from this month's posts in a word document in summarized form]

Sorry if my query is sounding immature.

Thanks in advance

I have no idea if someone has done a digest already... I think most people find they gain 99% of their knowledge from various resources (books, websites, specs., mock exams etc.) but are still left with just a few queries, so they post on here to clear those up. Since everyone understands topics differently, usually people just want the answer to a couple of very specific questions. From experience, we do get a lot of duplicate questions on here from people who can't be bothered to do a search first (and worse when a post on the front page is a duplicate!). A digested form of all previous threads may help this matter---I fear we'd still get a lot of unnecessary duplicate questions, but at least it could be linked to a single "FAQ entry" more quickly. Though I fear there would still be questions unanswered from that, just because everyone understands things in slightly different ways! I imagine such a digest will start by removing all non-technical threads like passing the exam/scores, books, mock exams (unless those questions reveal something profound) etc.? If you rake back over the last few months you'll probably find a lot of threads which can be condensed into paragraphs, and many more duplicates

You may want to look into putting the digest on a web page, e.g. as a wiki page here at JavaRanch, so future threads can be hyperlinked there when necessary. A Word document makes that difficult to do.

Hi Charles Lyons,

First of all, its a big pleasure for me to hear from you , Many thanks for responding and suggesting.

[I myself once was thinking abt the load on site , i do not know how it is getting managed as there are many duplicate threads ( i also came across duplicate threads sometimes , same HFSJ question asked at different times by differet persons )] .

I would like to suggest something if its possible (it might help in reducing the duplicate threads) :
If insread of having all posts of all topics at one place , if we could come up with diffrent links to many topics(Under SCWCD itself) : servlet , jsp , jstl , custom tag, deployment , security , filters and design patterns .And every one can go to specific topic for that particular topic query/doubt and first search there , if not found then can switch to posting it .Also we can have something blinking message " PLEASE SEARCH FIRST OTHERWISE POST !!!" on Post a reply page .

I can feel the complications of implementing it too like
1) what about posts which have been made so far .
2) Some1 needs to keep eye on like to move post from one topic t1 to another topic t2(if in case it is related to t2)
3) and may be others which are out of my scope and thinking

I totally agree with your wikipedia link idea , that would be very nice to have .

[sorry if anything above sounded silly/over-hyped , i regret in that case ]

Thanks a lot,
Vishal Chugh
