With a brand name also comes a level of support and reliability based on strength and reputation of the company.
Type and quality of components is important, but you can't do too much about all that with many laptop models. What's a standard laptop case or power supply look like? It's not like you can mix and match on too much, and the commodity items like memory aren't that much cheaper after-market to warrant a lot of fuss.
With laptops, better to go with company reputation as well as product quality.
