This is on behalf of my friend who doesn't have access of JR:

remember the hosts file? found in C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts???

this is the file to make the dns entries...what i want to know is whether the proxy can override this or is it the other way round?

What i means is, if you make an entry in this file as "hotmail x.x.x.x" where x.x.x.x is IP address of yahoo, then will it go to yahoo when i type hotmail.com in browser?

I made an entry in hosts file something like this:

yahoo.com 127.10.10.10 (or any random IP address)

But when I type yahoo.com in browser I see yahoos page loading in my browser... I think that means proxy server overrides this random IP with the actual IP.

So can we say that proxy server takes priority over hosts file?

Thanks.

Oh yes. But this too doesn't override proxy server's... it still opens "yahoo"...

Thanks.
