Hello,
We are using windows and our development language is Java (Java, Swing, JMS
server etc).

Is there any specific benefit of using Java with Linux??

??? , Totally confused.

I am not asking why to use Linux,
i am asking is there any benefit of using Linux for Java development or running java apps???

Do you mean that Java does not provide security on Windows??? I am sorry if you find my comment offending, but I think your answers does not clarify anything.

Java being a largely platform-agnostic language, there isn't much difference between running it on Linux and running it on Windows, so the question boils down to "Windows vs. Linux". Debating that question is like debating "Windows vs. Mac" or "vi vs. emacs", and not much more likely to have a useful outcome.

To Ulf,
That means there is no benefit, either you use Windows or Linux for Java development or running Java apps. Right?

Operating system does matter

According to the article, Java runs like a diablo on OpenSolaris.
Does your system performing a lot of disk access? IO? encryption?
I think the OS is certainly matters.
