Is it a sign of the times or something else?

Just seems like a little while ago when I joined the firm I am working for, straight from college and registered at java ranch almost at the same time, After sticking to the same firm for 4 years my colleagues say to my face that I am lazy to move out of the shell, while some may very well blame it on my inability to land something better, Say it whichever way you want it but I am the kind of guy who does it the way I like it. They also used to say the moose was not appropriate desktop wallpaper but I loved it anyways and my snap at the company profile intranet has me with MD on my desktop screen and it still remains the same. Some things do not change or do they

I used to be kind of regular at MD around my fresher days around 2002-3 when I had registered at java ranch to improve my Java skills but soon I came across MD and https://coderanch.com/forums/f-32/md replaced about:blank in the internet options/Home Page and it was fun trying to make sense of the going on as it was pure meaningless drivel as it could be. I did get into some scraps and had a couple of posts deleted but it was all in good spirits as I could always come back for more.

Moved on to a different project with tighter schedules and restricted net access and no java ranch to keep me company in between the boring team meetings and client calls. I may have brushed up on my java skills in the meantime but it seems MD has moved on in the time.

Dont know, but it feels more formal less fun, more meaning less drivel [Paul W, exception being your 30 odd posts recently, it was vintage MD]

Is it a new game around here or has it been an off day/week/month

looking at the WA thread I kind of remember, there used to be a thread just to beat the WA thread.... now that is as pure MD as it can get.
Don't exactly remember the topic but it had some dedicated posters who posted in it just to keep it above WA..... but it seems like WA has had the last laugh after all

The signature is a rip off from one of my profs, whenever asked a doubt he would say something on the lines above and we would be like now what... finding answers was tough enuf even with open book tests and now this fellow wants us to find questions as well

I'm reconsidering the entire concept: perhaps a roll isn't the correct approach? Maybe an electronic sensor that dispenses the toilet paper when a hand hovers near it? Perhaps with built in sensors that weight the, um, by-product, and calculates the correct amount of paper required?

Very true. My computer, gave The Ultimate Answer as 42 in just 7.5 million years! But the only problem is that I don't know what the question is

I'm not so sure there's a direct proportion of weight vs paper. I think the equation is more complicated, say a proportion of (weight*decibels) vs paper. The Richter scale may even be a necessary factor for an accurate equation.

Very true: and the system would have to be very robust. After all, affecting emergency repairs might be, um, somewhat uncomfortable on so many different levels...

Basha,

I agree wholeheartedly, your craps are no doubt more 'beutifull' then any book ever written: however, I have to ask, which of my books have you read? What, specifically, did you not like? Can we discuss it on a technical level?

best wishes ,
M

Max, you have been hyphenized.

Do we use "crap" in plural? Is "my craps" correct?

If you believe that language is a reflection of the way people actually use words, then yes, it's correct. in fact, it cannot be wrong.

However, if you believe that language is a logical structure by which people should use words, then you might have a case.

Personally, I couldn't give two craps: not two of my own crap, not even two of yours

And if I were, would you take it as an insult?

If my assertion is that my crap is crappier than your crap, would you take that as assertion that my crap is superior to your crap, because it's closer to the platonic ideal of crap?

Or would you assume that my crap is inferior to your crap, because it's crappier, and crappier implies 'inferior', so by the transitive property of logic, as assertion that my crap is crappier then your crap really means that my crap is inferior to your crap?

They said, "You don't understand. First he shoots the arrow and then he goes and makes the circle around the arrow, this is not archery. But he is always happy, and anybody who passes through this village almost always enquires about that idiot, nobody enquires about anybody else. His archery is all over the town, the whole day, that is his business. There is no target, wherever the arrow hits, he will go there and make an exact circle around it, so it is always in the center.

It seems that village is now missing it's idiot

I would like to see the vintage MD come back. Posts about dopey stuff found on the net; debating the finer points of whether or not to hit on co-workers; making phalic shaped soap and not using it the way one might think it should; why;

It was heady and dopey at the same time. Wish I knew the recipe to do that again. I remember getting rather addicted to MD back then. On a sour day, it was just the ticket to make the world seem like a better place.
