Dear Friends,

I am posting on this forum for the first time. basically sharing the situation I have and requesting your valuable suggestions.

I am an experienced individual (~8.5 yrs) and have worked with leading players in India such as Infosys and Cognizant. However I have left my job a month back to honor some personal commitments. Now I have solved my issues on the personal front and am looking out for a job. I am aware that searching a job these days is not that easy and will take some time. I am confident of my competencies and am confident of clearing any interviews as well. However, am just wondering whether a gap in my professional career (which is 1 month currently and is increasing day by day) will be a hurdle for me to get a good job? Do companies normally filter out cases which show similar gaps? Am I heading towards a disaster?

If anybody has faced such a situation already, could you please share your experiences?

Your words will be of enormous help and support to me. I badly need a job now to take care of my family.

Thanks in advance.
Aby

Hi Aby,

I do not think it will be big problem for you to get a job. If you are really suit for their requirement as well until you are tech savy it will not be a problem for 1 month or so.

But make sure to land any job at faster pace.

ALL THE BEST

I was thinking about my relatives similar situation in US. After having for 1 to 2 years they had gap of around 5 to 6 years but still they managed to get job in USA. Unfortunatley such things don't happen in India.

As your experience is over 8 years 1 month shouldn't be a problem because a lot of people take a break between jobs after having worked for long time. In fact I feel it is must for someone who has been working for over a 2 or 3 years to take a break of 1 or 2 months and take a break.

Did I understand this correctly? After having worked for 1 -2 years they were unemployed for 5-6 years?

Hi Abhijit,
Firstly, this is not a big problem at not.
All you have to do is "Explain clearly to the potential company why you took that 1-2month gap. Convince them with facts. Get their trust. Thats it."

Secondly, why you have that worry ? Did any company/hr said we dont want you because you have gap ? Then be happy that you are not working for such low-culture companies.

Use Naukri resume blast service, jobsstreet resume blast service and so on.

All the best.

Regards
Balaji

bah ! Not a reason for worry at all abhijit. The market is on the lookout for people with 6-10 years of experience on any given day (even during this crisis). I remember seeing some very good opportunities just a week back for experience in that range.

Mind you however that you will have to search for a while before you catch some fish. Good luck. No worries

You will be fine. Make sure you highlight your experience and accomplishments in the first page of your resume.

1 or 2 months gap after 8 years or experience shouldn't be a big concern. However Indian companies have tendency to look at gap skeptically in case of men (yes, in case of women gap can be ignored easily due to kid, marriage etc.). A reputed company working in financial domain had one bad HR -- and after doing pretty well in my technical interview & personal interview (when the team manager was wooing me to join and promised me on-site as well); the HR rejected me as I had gap of 3-4 months back in 2003. Though I had worked for a leading Java certification product during that gap period as an independent contractor. Anyway!

Be short and precise and explain why you took gap - I think with 8.5 years experience; it shouldn't be a problem at all. They may use this point to negotiate your salary though...but be firm & resolute!

I dont think it is any problem. If you know your stuff well, someone will always hire you. I have the same experience as you.In fact 3-4 yrs back, I quit my company and stayed at home for 2 months, just because i wanted to take some rest from work and travelling. When i started to look out for a job, when asked about the gap, I usually was able to convince the HR about my short leave. I got an offer from most places as techically I knew my job.
There is a bit of slowdown in hiring these days, but still I am getting mails from companies for interviews. So all the best ..It will be fine

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
