Usually server errors cause more detailed information to be stored in a log file somewhere.

In some cases the server is actually sending more details in addition to the error code but the "helpful" browser is showing you only the internal error message. If you are so unfortunate as to be stuck with Windows IE browser, use tools -> internet options ->advanced dialog - settings
Under "Browsing" ensure that the "friendly HTTP error messages" box in UNCHECKED.

Firefox browser offers best tools for programmers IMHO.

So you have examined all the log files for errors?

You have looked at the full error message returned? If so what is the error number?

What server are you doing this on?

Obviously, something in your JSP code is invalid. I suggest you remove chunks of code till you get something that compiles, then work back to find the offending JSP code.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
