JComboBox: JList Wider Than Renderer  RSS feed

Please point me to an example of a JComboBox where the drop down list is wider than the editor/renderer component that displays the currently selected value.

Tried out the code, but did not get the desired effect.
Have a feeling there is something missing.
Maybe like "setPreferredSize()"?

I remember those examples, now.
Haven't looked at them for several years.
As I recall, there was a period where they were removed from the Internet.
I see they have been reinstated.
Actually the second example, using tooltips in the combo box's drop-down list, seems more appropriate to my needs.
