Hi.

I have read conflicting information on what is legal in the "target" attribute of <c:set>. Some books say that it can take runtime expressions AND string literals. For example...

<c:set target="something" property="prop" value="val"/>

...and...

<c:set target="${something}" property="prop" value="val"/>

...according to some sources are both legal.

However, I have been trying now for several hours to make <c:set> take a string literal for target and I cannot accomplish it.

My question is: Can the "target" attribute take a string literal? And if so under what circumstances?

Thanks!
John
