Congrats!!!

Well, you can tell us about your preparation. What resources did you study? How much time you spent? What was your score? Was the exam difficult? ...

Excuse me for these questions, because I'm a little unsure and I will be trying to take it next month. I hope.

Thanks and Merry Christmas

Hi,

Thank you.

For your queries,

1. The followings are the books I have studied:

a. Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for J2EE Technology Study Guide - Mark Cade and Simon Roberts(for Part 1)
b. Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for JavaEE Study Guide - Paul Allen and Joseph Bambara (for Part 1)
c. EJB3 in Action (for Part 1)

I have read them thoroughly and practise with the test engine from the Paul Allen book.

2. For Part 2, in addition to the books I have mentioned:

a. UML Distilled
b. UML User Guide
c. STRUTS2 User Guide
d. Applying UML and Patterns: An Introduction to Object-Oriented Analysis and Design and Iterative Development (3rd Edition) - Craig Larman (gives you a good idea between domain and class diagram)
e. J2EE Design Patterns Applied - Matjaz Juric, Nadia Nashi, Craig Berry, Meeraj Kunnumpurath, John Carnell, Sasha Romanosky

"EJB3 In Action" is a very important book for my design for Part2. Read the requirements of the assignment carefully and apply what being learnt from the book to the design. "J2EE Design Patterns Applied" provide good insight in helping you to make design pattern decisions. Some patterns maybe outdated due to EJB3. Hence, from EJB3 In Action, you can deduce which one and modify accordingly.

3. For Part 3, as long as you have strong justifications of your design decisions and how your design will meet all non-functional requirements an Architect should address, you will be safe. However, proper time management is required to answer those questions. Do not spend too much time in each question. If not, you may not have enough time to answer all. The forum has also advice to read through all the questions first before answering. This is also important. Remember to "mark" the questions as you are going through. I did that to ensure I can go back to answer the questions safely. I am not sure if I can go back to answer the question without "mark"ing the questions. I have no time to try that.

4. For SCEA 5, only a "(P)ass" or "(F)ail" will be provided.

Hope the above points are helpful and Good Luck!

Cheers!

Hi,

One more thing to add, I did my Part 1 in July 2008 and my part 3 this month.
I do not wish to delay my Part2 and Part3 too long due to my work commitment. However, I burnt my weekends to complete Part 2

Cheers!

Hi,

Sorry. I forgot to add one more important point. This book "Core J2EE Patterns: Best Practices and Design Strategies, Second Edition - Deepak Alur, John Crupi, Dan Malks" is definitely needed for Part 1, 2 and 3.

Cheers!!

Scott, you wrote in another Post that you used BOUML for the assigment. How good is it? Can you give us some feed back about the tool

Merry Christmas!

Hi,

I am a new user to BoUML. I use it without the Project Control which comes with it. I would say that it is pretty intuitive to use and is good enough for me to do the assignment. Any advanced feature will need further explorations. Reason for me to choose BoUML is that it is free and support UML 2.0 and not so memory or resource intensive to run it.

Hope the above has addressed your concerns of the tool. However, I did not use StarUML which is popularly mentioned in this forum as I have already started to user BoUML to do my assignment.

Thank you.

Cheers!!

Hallo Scott Scoo,

I have posted the following questions on other thread but do not have a response. I hope you can help clarify them (some questions about the assigment):

1. There are only basic flows in the assignment. Should we extend them with alternate flows?

2. Some associations in the assigment do not have multiplicity. Can we suppose they have the default value of 1?

3. Can you tell us something about your document templates?

Thank you in advance
