So a colleague of mine and I have decided to try our hands at iphone development. Problem is, neither of us have a mac. Other problem is we haven't, up to this point, needed a mac for anything. So not knowing our future with iphone development we didn't want to drop a lot of money into a new laptop. We decided to both go with the exact same model and we got the 13" macbook, 2.0 dual core, 2 gig ram.

Would I have loved a mbpro? Sure. But I think testing the waters with this slimmer model was a good idea. We got them for about $1250 each with free priority shipping. Not bad if you ask me.

I went ahead and got the vga adapter for my 19" fp because the 13" screen is a tad small for sitting at my desk. Great for portability though if I am out and about.

Does anyone else have this model? Have you had any issues that I should be aware of?

Congrats Gregg,

My prediction is that in about a week every other OS is going to seem pretty lame

Ha, we'll see. I think my key to acceptance is to not approach it expecting it to behave like Gnome or Windows. I consider myself to be fairly OS agnostic. But I'm excited to evaluate it.

"Issues?" You clearly haven't had enough Kool-Aide yet. Seriously, the only issues I know of with these new models are some trackpad responses, which were apparently fixed with a recent firmware update; and some "black screen" problems with the 9600M graphics chip when pushed with intensive gaming. I think your model uses the 9400M chip, so you should be fine.

A friend of mine just got one of the 13" models, and she loves it (although she was already Mac indoctrinated). That should be a great machine for iPhone development -- and most everything else too!

Congrats! I think you'll love it.

Good to know, even though I don't see myself doing any intense gaming on this machine.

Awesome! I'm excited to get it. It should arrive Monday or Tuesday (hoping for Monday, obviously).

Congrats Gregg.

Definitely get something like VMWare Fusion, then get a free Ubuntu appliance (A VM already built and ready to go in Fusion), you will never touch another machine again. At least without you kicking and screaming.

Grrrrrrr. It still hasn't arrived. FedEx is showing Monday. Good things come to those who wait I suppose but I'm way too impatient right now.

If there's something to be impatient for, a new Mac is certainly it!

IT HAS ARRIVED! So far so good. Initially impressed with simple things like the packaging, the simple design, not littered with stickers (like my sony laptop), the new touchpad is awesome, speed, sound, etc. Just a nice piece of hardware.
