We might have to provide one for you, Stuart.

It was "Sparky" when I was little. In junior high it was "Stickboy". In high school it was variations on my last name: "Peabs", "Peab", "The Peab".

Now my friends simply call me "Marc" and strangers call me "Sir".

I try to get people to go with "Paul, lord of the jungle", but it never sticks. Maybe if I went to a jungle sometime it would help.

My 2-yr old used to call me "Baba" - the common term used in China for a father.

She has subsequently shortened it to "Bob".

People mispronounce my last name all the time, but I've never encountered that particular mispronunciation.

"te quiero" is Spanish for "I love you", so while it's a mispronunciation alright, someone might have a reason to spell you so, wittingly or unwittingly.

[MdQ]: People mispronounce my last name all the time

What, you mean their failure to anticipate the silent "de"? and whose fault is that, I wonder?

Note for non-Americans: the "DQ" nickname is funny in part because it's widely used as the nickname for Dairy Queen, a US fast-food franchise specializing in sundaes and other desserty things.

As for myself - well "Jim" already is a nickname, technically - the real name is James. A few people call me Jimbo or Jimmy, but mostly it's just Jim. Or Yingst or "that rat b@$+@rd!" or whatever else may come to mind.

But so far, nobody but you has come up with that mispronumciation/misspelling.

The Brazilians? That's not exactly what I had in mind, though. I was thinking more of people who pronounce it "dee-coo-air-ee-oz". At least "day-kee-air-oz" is closer.

I usually get DOM, (or sometimes do'm, but it's harder to pronounce ). My initials also give me DAO, but that nick faded before TLAs became popular. I too have been known as "that rat b@$+@rd!", but now I know they were referring to Jim.
