Hi All,

I am working as a Software Engineer in Bangalore(India). My profile here is a bit weird ,I am a Java Developer here and currently working on a J2EE project..
I got this job after a long Struggle..of giving interviews...Frankly speaking I am a Java Savvy Guy.

I used the word weird ...because I am working on a Modeling tool i.e Borland Together(only resource in India) and got to learn new technologies..like UML 1.4 , 2.0 ,2.1 ,BPMN,MDA,OCL,Design Patterns..etc..what the tool supports ...

My doubt in asking such a question is Are there guys who can just highlight a view on my future...because I am not working on any real time projects but...Internal applications....Also Preparing for SCJP ....

Please Guide me Ranchers........I need your help bye...

When you say that you are "working on internal applications", what do you mean? What are you actually doing?

Do you supervise the work of programmers and developers? Do you meet with end-users and gather requirements?

Explain the details of your average day, and maybe we can identify what would be best for you.

How long have you had your current position? Do you enjoy your work? Do you have any friends?

Hi James,

Thanks for your reply mate,

I joined in April 2008 ,and after that I was on a trial period for One Month.During this period I was given a project on Library Management System.I finished it using Swings. After that I was given a Offer Letter and I Officially become a Member of my Firm.

My Firm provides Functional and Automation Testing Solutions Using Borland Silk Test, Borland Silk Load Runner,..etc.As you might have got a Idea they are partners of Borland and have a rich background in Testing.

Been frank my roles and responsibilities in my Offer letter are for a java developer and building skills on Borland Together.

What I meant by internal application is kind of a In-House project which my firm will use.Currently building a J2ee project based on Servlets and Jsp.
Not working on any Real-Time projects Cos they dont have one,As background is Testing.

But mean time since May 2008 ,I have learnt new Modeling technologies and I have been busy practicing those on the Together tool.

Ya I m definitely happy with the way I am able to approach clients and get information from them about there projects ,frameworks and basically the architectures and helping them in implementing agile methology by use of a Automation tool like Borland Together. The tool covers the entire design aspect and since it was initially meant for java developers I think its a great platform for me to learn it and provide solutions through it.
But the One thing which is Itching me is the Development Opportunity

I am not supervising any development team,

I am not gathering requirements from end users ,But can help them provide them solutions in a Automated Format(Use of CaliberRM).

So Please let me know Where I am Standing Right now according to you guys....because I want to be known as a Java guy who knows in and out ....of the Language and probably the latest industry trends...

Waiting for your reply ...byeeeeeeeeeee

Why do you place such an importance on "real time projects"? Also, what do you mean by "real time"? Java is not really used for "real time" software, so how or what you are referring too is unknown.

It seems like you are happy. You should not worry about a "reputation" especially an "online" reputation. You should focus on developing your soft skills such as communication and writing skills. Your English writing skills are very poor and you need to improve things like sentence structure, grammar and spelling. This will help you become a better programmer and increase your value as an employee.

If you cannot write English well, then your ability to communicate with others will not be good. Email communications are very important, and writing effective documentation, is actually more important than simple Java syntax.

Good luck with your career development!

What I mean by Real time projects is a Project which brings some Commercial value to the Organisation...Here in India people always ask you for your experience on such projects...I am in a soup because I am not working on any such projects.

Thanks for your suggestion on my communication skills.I think I am better but will try to improve it as you found it difficult to understand.

I really dont know why you had such a weird suggestion on my English

I think its because I miss-matched the entire previous blog and made it unreadable.

Does having a SCJD certificate bridge the gap between my inexperience of not working on Real Time projects.

Thanks and waiting for your reply...

The term "real time" is often used by folks from some places in Asia where others would say "real world". In other words, solving actual problems, as opposed to example and toy problems one might work on for learning something. So it's got nothing to do with Real-time computing.

Rakesh, based on your post, you state that you are working on a software tool, e.g. Borland Together. This sounds like a "real" product and any experience you gain developing any part of the product is significant.

If you are doing anything related to helping the internal groups, e.g. testing, etc. or developing internal software, then this also is "real" experience.

Thanks for the reply,

Let me clear it Once again,

Ya I am using the Tool to develop my Applications,

But the main feature of my role is to solve client problems or help them to implement their projects using Together.

By doing this I can get a Overview of the different standards used by Industries.(.i.e the Architect's, Designers,System Analyst's) in their product Development.

Along with this I will try to complete the necessary Certifications involved in it..

I guess this will help ..me in my Career Development

Thnaks...

Is it your first job? The thought of being "real" or not would come when you think from a perspective outside the current situation/organization. Though you are working, you *do* want to see some industry names (if not big atleast familiar ones) on your resume, so that you be recognized elsewhere.
Why not think you are building a career line. Ask yourself are you happy at current place, with current nature of job and current earnings? If not why?
