I just got an email, the first from this site, about a followup to a thread that I posted to. Yet when I click on it, I am told I can't see it.

I guess, that the thread was closed, locked, moved, deleted or something between the time I posted to it, and when I got the email. And this is fine, as the thread was useless (even for MD) and from an unacceptable named person. But my question is, if the new forum software can send followups, why isn't it smart enough to know not to link to dead threads?

Pat

Hi Pat,

Thanks for telling us about this. The thread in question is not deleted; it was moved to the "Trash Can", which is a private holding tank for threads that we want to remove from the public eye. After it was moved, the bartender who moved it posted an explanatory note, and you got a notice about that last post.

Since I've got your attention: your question was about a user with several odd characteristics. "Jabba Hutt" was actually me, posting from a newly-created account to test a theory. There was a weird bug which was causing the problem you commented on. I managed to diagnose and fix the bug and the change is running now, so the problem has gone away.

We appreciate your taking the time to comment on these issues -- keep it coming!

Ah, the old Squidly J User alias. A tad less obviously fiction.

I've found it useful to have a peon account to use, sometimes stuff remembers your "wheel/root/bartender/god" privs, and look different than they do for mortals

Yep, I have those too; this problem was affecting only brand-newly created accounts, so I needed yet another one!
