i am currently working in a bank's in house software development.
currently i am coding in lagacy language (ie INFOBASIC).
which is famous and used only in banking sector. Perhaps outside software houses do not even know about INFOBASIC.
And personally i like coding in Java. so what did you people suggest should i continue the current job or should i change it any try working in somewhere in Software houses???

All kinds of suggestions are warmly appreciated from my side.

Regards

This isn't a good time to make major career changes. If the job pays decent and appears stable, I'd say keep it. Develop some Java expertise in your spare time. I recommend finding an open-source project and volunteering so that you can get some practical experience and have something to show people if/when you do decide to leave the INFOBASIC field.

INFOBASIC probably isn't going to go away overnight, especially at a bank, but it has been quite a few years since it was well-known.

Java may or may not be the direction to move, but it's as good as any. The other thing you might want to develop some expertise in is the Linux OS, if you've been using only Windows up to now. If you know Linux, you should be able to get around in the general Unix world, including Solaris, AIX, BSD, and the Mac OS and it will give you some interesting insights that may help you understand computing systems in general.
