Hi Group!

Can anyone tell me how web servers talk to app servers assuming they are on different machines?

I am thinking RMI-IIOP

Thanks!

Hi,

It depends on how the different vendors implement it. It can be HTTP, IIOP etc.

Cheers!!

I would hazard a guess and say it's going to be based on the CORBA/IIOP protocol. I remember from SCBCD that EJB containers are required to follow the protocol rules prescribed by the CSIv2 specification (http://www.omg.org/technology/documents/formal/omg_security.htm#CSIv2) when it comes to supporting secure invocations on EJBs in intranets, and CSIv2 is a security enhancement to CORBA.

Hi,

If the call is from a servlet to an Entity bean then web servers might use RMI-IIOP as you said. The question is there any other way webserver communicates the Apps server?.

Thanks,
Kumar

hi Sai,
It could be anything. Depends on the a lot of things like vendors, jee vs non jee, what the machines are trying to do etc...
Could you be more specific ?

Thanks
Ashwin

Hi ,

I am talking about Java-based web servers talking to Java-based application servers.

So RIM-IIOP is the answer in that case, correct ?

Thanks,
Sai

I think that's up to the server implementation, and not specified in any standard.
