I have a requirement where i have to show a difinite progressbar in the JSP till a store procedure completes its task in the backend. To achieve this, at present i am executing the store procedure from a separate thread and coming back to the JSP and showing a modal popup on the JSP for showing the progressbar. From this modal popup i am retrieving the percentage of completion in the progressbar from a table, which is updated by the store procedure. Here i am using AJAX for getting the %age of completion by making contineous calls till it completes.
Is this the right way to do?
Or do we have any other packages or plug-ins where we can fulfil such a requirement.

Thanks in advance.

At a high level your approach is correct. However you might want to create a nice wrapper around calculating the progress of the operation.
