I was browsing through SCWCD Exam Study Kit by Deshmukh, Malavia and Scarpino... on page 6-7 there is a citation on types of servlet container as
1. Stand Alone
2. In-Process &
3. Out-of-process.

What is the difference between the in-process and out-of-process containers? For both the example is given as "combination of Apache Web-Server + Tomcat" but I am not able to get how this combination differs in the two cases. First one loads a JVM and second one uses a plugin. Can somebody elaborate it in detail?
