Welcome to the ranch! You should probably take 1.6. The differences between 1.5 and 1.6 are minimal (just some new API classes and interfaces.) I don't think 1.4 is administered any more, but even if it is I would go directly for 1.6, as getting certification for old technology like 1.4 would probably be of limited value. As to what you should do to pass: Think about what you did the first time, and what you can do to improve. Personally, I would get the Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates Study Guide for SCJP 1.6, do a lot of mock exams, and write a lot of sample code. For a good set of free mock exams, do a search for Devaka's ExamLab.

I have only suggestions for you that attack on scjp and do lots of coding to understand, ask lots of questions here, we are with you in this attack.

That's true. If you want free information, go to Sun's website. They have plenty of free tutorials, and you can get the java API documentation free, plus The Java Language Specification, which is also free. Should you attempt to read and understand the JLS completely, you are assured to pass the exam with an excellent grade. But it is not the type of book that I would consider easy reading...

See the JavaRanch SCJP FAQ for a lot of useful information, including a list of mock tests.

Note that most books cannot be legally copied in electronic form for free. We do not allow request for or offers of illegally copied materials on JavaRanch.
