Hi.........

I want to thank all the java ranchers for helping me through with the certification. I hadn't expected such a score but I am really pleased with how the things worked out for me.

I thank the almighty for my achievement.........

Well Antriksh,

All I can say is that, the SCJP exam toughness is not really high enough... All one needs to do is K&B and do all the mocks you can find.

The CD that comes along with the book , contains an exam or two, but all I can say is that they really are tougher than what comes in the real exams.
Do do those questions, but as an exercise , rather than evaluating yourself on the basis of the result.

The exam is not tough , but all you need is the right focus, and clarification of all the exam objectives to the apt level.

Congrats. More 100% nowadays. Credit to good preparation materials and hard work. Keep consciously applying what you had learnt. Nothing can beat practical experience.

"MADDY " please check your private messages for an important administrative matter. You can check them by clicking the My Private Messages link above.

And also make a note that requesting illegal material is against the ranch policy so please dont do it in future.
There is no shortcut to success, go ahead and buy a book it will be more worthy than its cost.

Thanks for the clarification. I've always heard the term [Edited term] refer to illegal [Edited term] of [Some more edited terms]. In any case, enjoy your well deserved success!

Also the edited term usually implies that the person has used cheating to pass the exam or get a good score and is actually a big zero when it comes to concepts that a certified guy might know. Finally its of no use that someone has a certificate but no knowledge.

Congrats kshitij !! Thats a great score.

Well
- Amit Ghorpade
- Ruben Soto

You guys have to tell me what exactly did Ruben mean when he used the term, because I didn't in any case...
you can read my posts, and what I said was - "All one needs to do is K&B and do all the mocks you can find. "

This is really sick what you guys have made out of it,
really seems you both just wanna pass your time, and start the blame game. I am really dissapointed , that you say this when I realy meant the mocks on the links like these -

http://www.javabeat.net/javabeat/scjp5/mocks/scjp-5-0-generics-6.php

No reason to be upset. I realized that you might have mistaken "mocks" by [Edited term] for some reason. It's just that if you use [Edited term] in the context "I used all the [Edited term] I could find" it might lead some people to get the wrong idea. But I am sure that you are an honest person

So congratulations on your score, again! Out of curiosity, why did you go for 1.5 instead of 1.6? Every time I see someone take the 1.5 exam instead of the 1.6 exam I wonder if there is a specific reason for that, since it might seem more logical to attempt to get the certificate that's most up to date.

Edit: I just realized that you edited your original message to remove the term [Edited term] (Hint: When you edit a message, that fact is displayed at the bottom of the message.) But why go through that trouble and then deny that you ever used the term? Just admit you made a mistake, as anyone can make a mistake. No reason to cover up your tracks when you haven't done anything wrong.

Second Edit: I think you didn't edit anything after all, but Amit probably did.
However, you did use the term [Edited term]. Why deny it? I know what I saw, so please don't imply that I am a liar.

Well Ruben

I am a college student. It was really tough to cope with the academics and the certification simultaneously. I had already started of with 5 in August, and I just had to give the exam and continue with the college studies. And anyways, what is being said worldwide is that after the introduction to Java 1.2 , Java 5 is the next big thing. Java 6 mostly consists of more API and stuff.

Yes, you are right. The differences between the 1.6 and 1.5 contents are rather small. In any case, I am sure a 1.5 certificate is worth as much as a 1.6 certificate, so you should be OK in that department. It's good to have you in the forum sharing your great knowledge with other people.

Its me who edited the original post to use a decent term and something exactly what you meant to say kshitij .
And kshitij your post above is on the borderline of our "Be Nice" policy. Please first understand what others are trying to say before pointing fingers .

Anyways everything is clear now, happy ranching people

Hi Mukesh,

Thanks for the acknowledgment.

What next, huh :?

Well I am a student, so am preparing for gre for a masters degree. I know this is important, but it really scares me too as I will be out of touch with java, for a considerable time.

Everything will go fine. You may still practice Java for your own fun and leisure when you feel so! Apart from this, I'm sure Java may be useful during your studies for the master degree.

Dear Ranchers,

I have one query in K & B book

Chapter 7: Generics and Collections

Q16. Given a method declated as:
public static <E extends Number> List<? super E> process(List<E> nums)

A programmer wants to use this method like this

//INSERT DECLARATIONS HERE
output = process(input);

Which pairs of declarations could be placed at //INSERT DECLARATIONS HERE to allow the code to compile? (Choose all that apply.)

A. ArrayList<Integer> input = null;
ArrayList<Integer> output = null;

B. ArrayList<Integer> input = null;
List<Integer> output = null;

C. ArrayList<Integer> input = null;
List<Number> output = null;

D. List<Number> input = null;
ArrayList<Integer> output = null;

E. List<Number> input = null;
List<Number> output = null;

F. List<Integer> input = null;
List<Integer> output = null;

G. None of the above.

The books says B, E and F are correct answers. But when I tried to compile the code I came to know G would be the correct answer as with none of the mentioned in A, B, C, D, E and F compiles successfully.

Also when I tried to compile with
List<Integer> input = null;
List<? super Integer> output = null;

It compiled successfully. It seems mistake in book, am I correct?
also could anyone explain how does this works? I think I am poor in understanding this. I would like to know what would have been the implications if say B compiles fine.
