Hi All,

I have to develop a system for windows that uninstalls software once license expires. I am a java app developer but don't have much experience about system level programming.
My perception is that if I can create a service that runs on the system level (i.e. user = system), and reads the registries then it is possible.
Please suggest the java based approach for this

I feel uninstall will really screw up the user experience. I personally will not like programs modifying my installations on their own.
The better way is to leave the software unusable and prompt the user to renew/buy license.
This is the way any professional software vendor handles licensing.

This has always puzzled me. Where do they store the counter?

I quite agree and more to the point it may well even be illegal (depending on which country you are in) as you are deleting the contents of someones hard drive without their permission. I worked on a project in the UK some years ago which had a similar requirement and we were advised it would be illegal under UK law.

It's far better to do as Nitesh has said and force them to buy a new license before they can proceed.
