Hello Ranchers,

I know the XML syntax of mime-mapping , Its from HFSJ book:

<mime-mapping>
<extension>mpg</extension>
<mime-type>video/mpg</mime-type>
</mime-mapping>

But i dont understand the practical use of it , what we goona do after this mapping of extention to mime-type ?

Thanks

if i'm not wrong, it tell the server to send any file
with the "mpg" extension (like movie.mpg) as a
"video/mpg" so the browser know how to handle it.

Also,
if you want to test it, on firefox 3.0.x you can get a feeling of what application will be used for each mime type by selecting Tools->Options->Applications(Tab). The column on the left is the mime type. On the right you see the application that will handle the content.
