Hi all,
I just started preparing JWS. I want to get certified in Java Web Services from SUN.
I have following questions. Please do answer will be a greate help.
(1) I bought a book "J2EE Web Services" by Monson-Haefel infact several months back. but this is for J2EE 1.4. In JEE 5 things have changed I am confused should I still prepare from it or buy a different book for JEE5? Also is J2EE 1.4 web servies outdated?
(2) I installed JBoss 4.2.2 and Eclipse europa (3.3). Is it good to get started with? Is there any good tutorial to follow using these tools?
(3) Seems like there are no examples in the book mensioned above. should I just read book or also do some examples by myself? Should I like " learn how to develop JWS using above tools first then start reading book and do more complex examples by myself"???

I have very little knowledge of JWS but want to become expert I have given 4 weeks of time for myself Please help me get started with it.

Thanks a lot for reading my questions for you pleaseeee do answer.

Some parts of J2EE 1.4 WS are obsolete (like the JAX-RPC API, which has been replaced with the JAX-WS API), but not all of it. I don't think there's yet a book specifically for the new version of this exam, so you'll need to check which of the exam objectives are not covered by it, and find additional material for those objectives.

Just reading a book will not prepare you for developing WS. You'll need to do a fair amount of actual developing to get a feeling for them. I'd advise not to use the IDE support for this; those tend to abstract things away that are crucial to understand (both for the exam, and for developing actual WS).

4 weeks seems way too short, unless you're doing this fulltime. WS are a complex subject.

Hi Ulf,

Thank you so much. You gave me a wise advice. I will not use any IDE and also will try to do hands on parctice. My plan is to read the book first and then once I get basic idea will start doing examples using JBOSS. Will not use any IDE.

Thanks,
Naveen
