Yes for the beginners it is the best available book , but for exam you have to go through EJB specifications and some mock exams too. EJB3.0 Orielly is also another option which is also good book.

Well...
First of all there is no, HF series SCBCD5 exam. Coming to selection of books, I see lot of guys like you and me (BIT Novice to EJB) prefers EJB in Action Book.
I feel that's the book to start, and what I am doing that now.
The next step is to go through Specs atleast once (As Jothi suggests in other forums )
Finally my plan is to take commercial mock exams, Enthuware's. That's my planning.

Hope this helps

Head First EJB is for EJB 2.0 and the exam CX 310-090 has already expired.
I am preparing for SCBCD 5.0 from EJB 3 in action and Enterprise Java Beans 3.0 and in my perspective the action book is good one for beginners and for detail study go for Orielly book.

Hi, I'm also planning to take SCBCD. Have you guys considered "Mastering Enterprise JavaBeans 3.0" book? Because I'm searching for a one-stop-book like K&B if you're taking SCJP for example. Or "EJB3 in Action" would be my best choice?

There is no one book which is currently available in the market which would be enough for SCBCD 5.0

Actually I have read a mix of spec, Oreilly EJB 3.0, EJB 3 in Action and Mikalai Zaikin study notes. MZ and spec I read fully, other 2 books I did not read it fully. Mainly I concentrated on spec and MZ.

Please go through the following thread where I have explained my learning experience for SCBCD 5.0
