use a IDE or not

last week i passed the SCJP and now want to go for SCWCD..i'll be referring to HFSJ..want to know whether it's ok to use a IDE(ecllipse) for practice or shall i start without it. what did most of you do when you just started learning servlets and jsp.

Its better to start learning without IDE. Manually deploy classes and write DD.

Once you have got the concept, then may be you can switch to IDE.

thanks anoopriya..i'll do that. Also, i want to know whether it's fine to refer to HFSJ 1st edition instead of 2nd edition for the exam purpose ?

It's fine. Check the SCWCD FAQ and this tutorial on dynamic attributes.

It's ok to use an IDE as long as you don't use any IDE that will generate all the descriptors for you.
