Good morning,

I am having an issue uploading the Java 6 Development Kit from java.sun.com.

I am not currently working at any company who requires to use Java,
so I was wondering if that might be the issue.
It may only let actual companies upload the software.
I am using the software for learning purposes.

Help?

Matt.

Downloading, you mean, presumably.

What problem are you having? Anyone should be able to get it.

Oops. I did say uploading, didn't I.

My problem is, when I go into the SDM that allows me to download it,
when I click it to start, it downloads about 1 percent, stops, then restarts, saying it has an error.
It did this about 6 times, then I couldn't download it anymore, because it says I have exceeded the limit of times I can download it.

I've repeated the process about 4 times.

DonĀ“t use the sun download manager. Just click the download link (with the filename in it).

Oh no.

Good news: It uploaded!

Bad news: I can't open the kit.

Now, my issue is: Did I upload the right thing? The thing I uploaded was:

Java SE Development Kit 6u11

But when I click on the file I uploaded, it gives me this error:

Windows cannot open this file.

To open this file windows must know what program created it.

Does this mean I uploaded the wrong file? What's going on?

Matt.

P.S. i've been using the Head First Java book, which covers 5.0...but this upload is for 6...

it seems that the file was not downloaded currectly, it happens sometimes for large download, the file must have an extension of exe or msi for windows to recognize as installers, I am assuming you downloaded same file as shown in screenshot

Yeah that's exactly what I downloaded.
But I don't get it. The file name has an exe.sdm end to it.

it seems that you downloaded wrong file
that is extension for sun download manager temporary file
you have to redownload the file by clicking on the blue link
and extension of downloaded file should be exe.

I say it again , click on the blue link

Uh, wait a minute.

I found another file (must be the one I downloaded THIS time)
It is called jdk-6u11-windows-i586-p.

But when I open it, it won't open and it says 'This is not a valid Win32 app'

I get it,
what you have done is downloading file from sdm(sun download manager) and then the download has been interrupted in the middle, so you get these 2 files ,one is a part file of and other is sdm file, check that file size is roughly 72mb and if it's not then your download is definitely NOT successful,
re-download.
