Bit of a specific question but I will give it a go.

I basically am about to host a large tomcat application on the amazon cloud, this will be clustered eventually.

The application needs to run a batch process and the results of this are left in a cache (oscache) so that they can be referenced when required by the end users.

Now if this application is on a number of different clusters I would like only one tomcat instance to run the batch and create the cache then the other instances can pick up the results.

The problem is that amazon will just copy the first instance to make another and I need to set a flag on the first one that only it will run the batches.

Does anyone know how/if I can pick up a flag so that the application knows it is a unique instance.

Thanks
