Advice on developper environment

Hi, I am quite novice to micro programming. I am looking for some information on what the different options are, hence also apart from java, to program a simple application on a small device. What would be the advantages and disadvantages of different programming environments. Would you have some links to novice information on programming small devices like phones and pda's, and not necesarrally java, allthough I do have most experience in the java language. I have also quiet a lot of .NET C# experience but not in mobile apps. Please give me some hints where to start.

I would recommend j2me.
Everything else is platform specific.
You can try c++ for symbian, but it's only for symbian.

For windows mobile you can check this link

What about Android? Is that a good platform for software on a very small device. The device is not defined yet, but something as big as a simple mp3 player. Is Android java code compatible with JME code?
