Hi All,

I cleared my SCBCD 5.0 certification yesterday and scored 96%

Just wanted to throw some light on what I prepared and how I managed to get that score.

I had practical work experience with coding in Servlets (listeners and filters), Hibernate, Spring, EJB 2.0 (stateless session bean, entity bean, MDB/JMS), actually these are the features that you can find, which are added as well in EJB 3.0 other that few other things like Annotations, etc., which were not there in EJB 2.0.

So before starting the actual preparation for the certification, I had some background knowledge of what is in EJB 3.0. As I had exposure to the above technologies it helped me while preparing for SCBCD 5.0.

My actual preparation for the exam was for 1.5 months, as I had no other choice, my voucher was about to expire today which I saw only 1.5 months back. My major part of the preparation was from Mikalai Zaikin study guide for SCBCD 5.0, which I read thoroughly.

A ton thanks to Mikalai Zaikin for preparing this guide. It covered each and every exam objective separately. It's almost like a single stop shop for this exam.

Other than this study guide, I visited many links which I just googled based on every exam topic, wherever I wanted more explanation. Other than this I did a quick glance of Orielly for EJB 3.0. I practiced coding using JBOSS plug-in in Eclipse.

That's about my preparation, I am really glad to have scored 96%

Hi Amit,

Thanks.

You can start with O'reilly EJB 3.0 book, just have the objectives for SCBCD 5.0 from sun side by side when you prepare for the exam. When you go through the book just stick to the objectives of the exam, take each exam objective and read according to that, coz if you have had time say like 4-5 months i would suggest you to read all the chapters and practice it by coding as well, but since you have hardly 1 month to go, just skip the rest of the book and stick to exam objectives only.

There are some of the exam objectives which are not covered in O'reilly book, for which refer to EJB 3 in Action. When you do not understand any of the exam objectives from these books, google the exam objectives, there are lot of good links, which I read too, which provide a much better undestanding.

And last but not the least, even if you do not have time to read all the objectives from the above said books, do not forget to go through Mikalai Zaikin's SCBCD 5.0 study guide before going for the exam. As I earlier said in this topic, since the study guide is organized according to each objective of the exam, and since it is full of pointers than long theories, it would be very helpfu in the exam.

If you study on a daily basis, you should get through SCBCD 5.0 by Feb 28th. All the very best

Let me know how things goes.

I repeated the tests for 4 times. My top score was, 84%, but after taking the test for the last time, I did some more amount of preparation as well, I did not have time to take the test again after my final preparation, I rather revisited all the docs before going for the exam. That helped me in the exam. But yeah as said by others in this forum, when you take the test in Enthuware after your final preparation before your real exam, it would be as equal to your actual score in the real exam.

All the Best with your SCBCD 5.0

You can buy voucher from Sun's office in your country. SCBCD has SCJP as its prerequisite, so if you don't have SCJP you cannot take SCBCD yet.

Hi Vimal,

Please find below the links that I have used.

http://java.boot.by/scbcd5-guide/index.html - study guide by MZ
http://java.sun.com/products/ejb/docs.html - EJB 3.0 spec

for some exam objectives I was not able to find the material in MZ EJB 3.0, which I was able to find in the below link of MZ EJB 2.0
http://www.roseindia.net/javacertification/bcd-guide/index.shtml

These are some of the standard links that I used, other than this, for every exam objective whenever you do not understand anything or when you need to see the code example, just google the objective. There are no standard links, when I googled with the objectives, I found plentiful number of links with both good explanation for the objectives as well as with clear code samples which you can try out in JBOSS.

I hope it helps, let me know how it goes.
