This is a bit related to the thread "Handbag madness" I've just read.
In my country, there are two kinds of tickets we use for trains: - usual tickets you insert in a machine - magnetic cards you smash on the top of a machine
Recently, there are more and more machines for magnetic cardsonly. There is no way to insert a ticket. On the old machines, there is still a hole to insert the ticket. I can use only tickets, so the number of machines I can use have decreased. People with magnetic cards can use ANY machines. People with tickets can use old machines ONLY.
If you insert a wrong ticket, or if you use a magnetic card with not enough money in it, the machine will start buzzing, and we cannot use it for a number of time. Sometimes, it doesn't stop buzzing and we can't use it anymore.
The annoying thing is : Some people with magnetic cards still use the old machines, and sometimes they make it buzz. We, ticket holders, have to stop, and look for another old machine. Damn.
For example : O : old machine (tickets and magnetic cards OK) N : new machine (magnetic cards only)
O | N | N | N | O | N | N | O
If one of the old machine buzzes, I've got to find my way to another one. At rush time, this is a challenge. I'd like to curse every time this happens
I'm riding on 2 trains and 2 subway trains to go to work. I have a monthly ticket for trains and one for subway. If I'd buy a magnetic card, I'd still have to keep my train ticket for one of the trains (different train company). I don't want to have that much tickets
