This question is often asked to frontend (web) developers. It's just an (online) overview with some thumbnails/links/descriptions of what you've accomplished/participated as far. For example: http://iseeyou.com/portfolio.php

They asked me to bring a hard copy! does that mean i have to print screen shots from the websites pages or print the source code or both?

Thanks.

Maybe they just want links to websites you have made so they can browse the site? But this may not be much help as many websites require a login, or are not available outside of a private network.

Here is what I would do: I would write a paragraph or 2 about each website I've made. The purpose of the website, what I contributed to it's creation, who, what, when, where, why, how. If appropriate, I would include a URL.

Keep in mind the person who wants to see a "java website portfolio" probably just stepped off the set of the movie "office space". Don't think too much about it.
