Hi. I am going through the specs right now, and I have a question. On page 320, section "13.2.3 Update of Databases via Multiple EJB Servers", at the very end, is a sentence in intalic:

At transaction commit time, the two EJB servers use a distributed two-phase commit protocol (if the
capability exists) to ensure the atomicity of the database updates.

What if the capability does not exist? What happens then? Is it optional for a container to implement this distributed 2PC?
Thank you.

Raf,

Not sure...all current EJB containers support JTA. My guess is that it will be handled as a local transaction?

Regards,
Reza

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
