I am trying to apply the substance look and feels to my companies application. This is meant to be my introdduction to LAFs. so sorry if the question is blatently obvious.

when i use the WindowsLookAndFeel everything in our application works fine. when i try to use a substaance one i get this:

i have been working through a whole host of these which can mainly be fixed by setting the min size of components inside scrollPanes but the latest error i have come across is inside the constructor of a jPanel:

our application has panels inside panels inside scroll panes inside panels inside panels, overlayed with glass panes and zooming. mainly using miglayout.

So my question is this... would your first thought be substance and mig don't go together very well or we are doing something fundamentally wrong?

This is typical stuff. Unless you're doing something truly weird I would think any look and feel should be able to handle it.

I have used neither substance nor mig, so it may be best to ignore anything I say, but my first thought is that it's strange that mucking with minimum sizes would get rid of StackOverflowErrors and perhaps you aren't doing anything wrong.

Are you using version 5.1 of substance that was released a couple days ago? If not it may be worth trying it. If so, you might want to see if Kirill Grouchnikov himself might want to comment on your problem.

I just pinged Kirill and asked if he would take a look at this thread. No promises. You might want to join the substance mailing list. He always responds to questions there very quickly.

If this is happening only under Substance, please continue this discussion on the project "users" mailing list or the project forums. I will need to see a small (<100 lines) test application that reproduces this problem. Please note that i do not monitor the JavaRanch forums.

Thanks
Kirill
